Choosing the right truck is the first step to a successful shipment. The wrong truck can mean loading delays, extra costs or even damaged goods. In this guide we look at the truck types most used for road freight in Saudi Arabia and when each one is the best choice.

1. Flatbed

An open deck without fixed sides, suited to building materials, steel, pipes and equipment that is easy to load by crane from above or from the sides. The load usually needs to be well secured with straps and chains, and may need a cover if it is sensitive to dust or rain.

2. Curtainsider

It combines the protection of a closed box with easy side loading — the side curtains open so a forklift can load pallets quickly. A common choice for general cargo, pallets and goods from factories and warehouses.

3. Refrigerated truck (reefer)

Equipped with a cooling unit that keeps a set temperature for the whole trip, it is essential for fresh and frozen food, medicine and other sensitive products. When booking, specify the required temperature and the nature of the product.

4. Box truck

Full protection from dust, sun and rain — suitable for dry and boxed goods, appliances and products that need protection without cooling.

5. Lowbed

A low-deck trailer built for heavy equipment and tall machinery such as excavators and large generators. The low deck makes it possible to move tall loads within the permitted height limits.

6. Dyna

A light truck for in-city distribution and small to medium loads, easy to manoeuvre in narrow streets and residential delivery points.
